EPL Legend Rips Apart This Liverpool Star After West Ham Performance, Klopp Yet To Comment

It’s all well and good trying to defend yourself on social media after a difficult week but the best way for players to react to criticism is with improved performances on the pitch.

Loris Karius is enduring a tough spell at Liverpool following a series of costly mistakes in recent weeks.

The German reacted badly to the criticism he received for his performance against Bournemouth from the likes of Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.

That alone took some balls, not everyone would be brave enough to hit back at two of the toughest defenders the Premier League has ever seen.

But in truth only an assured performance against West Ham on Sunday would have quietened the critics.

Unfortunately for Karius, he was horribly exposed again and was judged to have been somewhat at fault for both of the Hammers’ two goals in the first half.

The first error came after Dimitri Payet hit a fairly accurate, but not powerful, free kick which Liverpool’s shot-stopper couldn’t keep out despite getting a hand to strike.

West Ham’s second goal was largely down to Joel Matip’s misjudgement which allowed Michail Antonio through on goal, however, Karius was left in no man’s land and made the finish a lot easier than it should have been.

Another disappointing display prompted even more criticism from Carragher, who launched a scathing attack on the ex-Mainz keeper, during his half-time analysis of the match for Sky Sports.

“The keeper got criticism last week and he’s come out this week and he’s had a pop at Gary Neville and mentioned me – my advice would be ‘shut up and just do your job!'” Carragher said, as per the Liverpool Echo.

“(Payet’s goal) That is not a difficult save. His positioning is fine, he gets across, he reads it well and he gets there. His wrists, like the first goal at Bournemouth, aren’t strong enough.

“It’s not even in the corner. And Payet hasn’t even hit it that hard.

“I have bigger problems with goals like that than mistakes. Mistakes happen. Every keeper does that, but goals like that shouldn’t go in.”

Jurgen Klopp has remained loyal to Karius despite last season’s first choice Simon Mignolet banging on the door.

But Liverpool boss can’t afford to keep picking him if he continues to cost the Reds crucial points.

In his analysis of the Hammers’ second goal, Carragher hinted that the German’s low confidence is there for all to see.

He added: “Matip makes a mistake. It gets a deflection and he can’t sort his feet out.

“But the keeper there is doing the hokey cokey. He doesn’t know if he’s coming or going and he completely freezes. His confidence is all over the place and as he comes out he panics.”

Karius did enjoy a much quieter second half but Liverpool could only salvage a 2-2 draw from the game.

After Chelsea had beat West Brom earlier in the day, Klopp’s men are now six points behind the Blues at the Premier League’s summit.
