Euro 2016 Qualifiers roudup: Friday night matches 

The Qualifying campaign of Euro 2016 continued across the continent on Friday as nine games were played to decide who will be there in France next year and who will miss the flight.

Results saying Defending champion Spain and Switzerland sealed the spot. Sweden and Ukraine are still in the hunt.


Despite Silva and Morata’s injury, a good news for Spain as they qualify for next year’s summer event. Slovakia missed a golden chance to automatically secure the place in France after been defeated by Belarus. On the other hand, with a win Ukraine is level on points with Slovakia. Another round of matches still to play.

Spain 4 – 0 Luxembourg

After defeating Luxembourg defending champion, Spain booked their place in finals. A brace each from Santi Cazorla and Paco Alcacer made it clear there will be no upset to come.

FYR Macedonia 0 – 2 Ukraine

Ukraine won 2-0 away in Macedonia to move level with Slovakia both having 19 points. But the Ukrainians stay behind because of an inferior head-to-head record with Slovakia.

Slovakia 0 – 1 Belarus

A single goal from Stanislaw drahun gave the Slovakians a bitter taste on their home ground.


England is marching their way to the finals as they are the only country with 100% record in the qualifying campaign. Slovenia’s 1-1 draw with Lithuania made things easy for Switzerland who after thrashing San Marino 7-0 has secured the second automatic berth.

England 2 – 0 Estonia

Goals from Theo Walcott and Raheem Sterling gave the three lions a comfortable win over Estonia.

Switzerland 7 – 0 San Marino

The first half it was 1-0, but after the break Switzerland just ran riot with 6 goals. Breel Embolo, Gokhan Inler and Pajtim Kasami all found their names in the score sheet.

Slovenia 1 – 1 Lithuania

Valter Birsa’s goal just before half-time gave the much-needed lead to Slovenia, but Novicovas’ second half goal denied the Slovenians an important win.


Ibrahimovic’s 58th international goal keeps Sweden in the race for an automatic place in this group. Russia though managed to stay marginally ahead in the second spot with a victory against Moldova. Austria was already assured of their place in Euro 2016 before kick-off; they defeated Montenegro after a tough match.

Liechtenstein 0 – 2 Sweden

Ibra’s ironical penalty miss in the first half followed his extraordinary goal after half time as he doubled the lead that came through Marcus Berg’s brilliance.

Montenegro 2 – 3 Austria

Marcel Sabitzer’s 92nd-minute goal buried the slightest hope for Montenegro who fought well with Vucinic and Beciraj’s goal. But Austria’s 3 second half goals turned the match around who won the match coming from behind.

Moldova 1 – 2 Russia

Russia managed to win the away fixture with Ignashevich and Dzyuba’s goal.
