Mesut Ozil’s contract extension saga has taken a new turn and it is not good at all for Arsenal as two European heavyweights are ready to lure the midfielder away from Emirates by meeting his wage demands.
The Germany international, who signed for the Gunners in 2013, has entered the last two years of his current contract and talks of a new contract are doing the rounds. However, nothing concrete has materialised so far. The new contract has hit a further roadblock after Ozil’s representatives demanded an improved wage for his client. They were initially looking for a £200,000-a-week package. But they have now increased their demands to £250,000-a-week.

The fall in the value of the pound following the Brexit vote is cited as the reason for the new demand and according to reports in the Sunday Express, the Gunners could reject the demand.
The playmaker is one of the most important players of this team. His value has only increased after he registered 19 assists last season and Arsenal know that they have to offer the midfielder a lucrative deal to keep him at the Emirates. In case, the new contract does not materialise, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are ready to meet Ozil’s wage demands.
Another important player of the team, Alexis Sanchez has also not signed a new contract yet. According to reports, the Chile international is demanding a similar figure to Ozil and Squawka reported yesterday that the North London club is worried about the player’s future at the club.
Meanwhile, former Gunners midfielder Perry Groves has warned Ozil and Sanchez to drop their demands.
“Have Arsenal got the money to spend? Yes they have,” he told The Sun.
“Will they get the 250-grand-a-week they are looking for? I don’t think they will get that.”
