The two rivals competed for bragging rights in the league despite neither side contending for the title and table toppers Barcelona on the other side will be the happiest team as the match ended in a draw.
Real Madrid have not defeated Atletico Madrid in the league at home since last 6 years and they were on a mission to end the draught.
The Los Blancos started to press high right from the word go and dominated them throughout the first half but couldn’t see the face of the first goal. There was also a debatable moment in the first half when midfielder Toni Kroos was taken down in the penalty box, but in the end referee decided to play on.
After the first half, it was Atletico Madrid who started to come on top of Real Madrid but minutes after, all of a sudden a cross from Gareth Bale to Cristiano Ronaldo gave Real Madrid their first goal.
But the Los Blancos couldn’t keep the lead for long as after three minutes Antoine Griezmann cancelled out the goal of Ronaldo to make sure Atletico Madrid remains unbeaten in the Santiago Bernabeu.
With this, Barcelona are now on top with 11 points clear and its now only a matter of time when they will lift the La Liga trophy.
