With uncertainties growing over Mesut Ozil’s future at the Emirates, former Chelsea coach Ray Wilkins has said that Arsenal should let him go and bring in Jack Wilshere.
The former manager said that Wilshere is even a better option than the German playmaker.
The Germany international, whose current expires at the end of next season, is yet to sign a contract extension despite being in negotiation since the beginning of this season. It has raised speculations around his future at the club. Moreover, reports are suggesting that the playmaker has contacted his former club, Real Madrid for a potential reunion which has made many people that his days at the Emirates is numbered.
The midfielder has become an integral part of Arsene Wenger’s plan. He topped the assist chart last season with 19 assists and losing him will certainly be a big blow but not according to Wilkins who claim that German playmaker goes missing in big games and Wilshere, who is currently enjoying a loan spell with Bournemouth, is a better option than him.
Another star who has still not penned a new deal is Alexis Sanchez. He has been linked with several clubs and the Gunners might lose him if they do not meet his demands.
Asked if he would rather keep Sanchez or Ozil at Arsenal, Wilkins told talkSPORT: “I’d have Sanchez, all day long.
“I’d bring Jack Wilshere back and let Ozil go. That is only my opinion.
“I think Jack is thoroughly enjoying himself at Bournemouth. He is actually playing week in, week out and you can see progress he is making.
“Thankfully he is over the injury problems he has had in the past.
“I think Jack Wilshere could be the equal of Ozil, if not better.
“He has a total commitment around the pitch. Ozil has wonderful touches but when he plays against the big teams sometimes you see him go missing.”
