Riding on Ilkay Gundogan’s stunning brace, Manchester City, on Saturday (June 3), beat bitter rivals Manchester United to keep their treble dreams alive.
The reigning Premier League champions scored the fastest goal in the history of the FA Cup Final as Gundogan fired a stunning volley from outside the box to stun Manchester United. The record for scoring the fastest goal in FA Cup Final was previously held by Louis Saha who took just 25 seconds to open the scoring for Everton against Chelsea in 2009.
For City, it took them only 12 seconds to open the scoring. Gundogan kicked off by passing the ball straight back to goalkeeper Stefan Ortega who launched it forward. Erling Haaland won the first ball before Victor Lindelof’s clearance fell right in front of Gundogan who made no mistake in hitting the ball sweetly to guide it past a hapless David de Gea.

Just after the half-hour mark, Manchester United drew level after Bruno Fernandes converted a controversial penalty. The video assistant referee ruled that Jack Grealish had handled after Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s headed cross was blocked by the raised hand of the City star. Grealish had his back to the ball and his touch was inadvertent but the officials eventually decided to award United a penalty.
The score was level at the break. And after the break, Gundogan made his presence felt again with another volley to power City ahead and eventually win the game for them. Six minutes after the restart, the German star volleyed Kevin de Bruyne’s free-kick past de Gea with his left foot to restore City’s lead. The goal was enough to help City clinch their seventh FA Cup title.
