Fabrizio Romano has delivered a latest and important update on Liverpool’s pursuit of Brighton’s World Cup-winning midfielder Alexis Mac Allister. The Reds have already set in motion their plans to conduct an open-heart surgery on their midfield, which has been one of the major reasons for the club’s poor performances and trophy-less season.

As a result, the Reds have drawn up a long list of midfield targets, and have even accelerated their efforts to sign them after missing out on Jude Bellingham, who is poised to join Real Madrid. Mac Allister was a name being mentioned at Anfield quite frequently, after his solid displays in Qatar, helping Argentina to World Cup victory.

‘Liverpool advancing’ – Romano reveals Reds are closing in on Mac Allister deal

Brighton teammates apparently believe Alexis Mac Allister to join Liverpool at the conclusion of the season, according to reports. The Argentine midfielder has had a breakout season for both club and country, winning the World Cup in December and scoring a career-high 10 goals in all competitions.

His form has put him in high demand, with Premier League and other clubs from across Europe’s top-five leagues interested, and the 24-year-old’s father Carlos expecting him to move this summer. Liverpool are looking for midfield reinforcements, with Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner due to leave in the summer.

With the Reds having ruled out a deal for Jude Bellingham, Mac Allister is one of the top prospects for a move to Anfield as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his team. And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has just dropped a huge update over the Reds’ developments in acquiring the services of the Brighton ace. He revealed on Twitter:

“No changes on Alexis Mac Allister and situation for his future. He’s expected to leave Brighton early this summer. Liverpool, advancing after they made a bid/presented project to player’s camp — there’s still nothing agreed or done yet on club side despite reports.”

According to The Mail, there have been ‘open’ discussions within the Brighton dressing room about Mac Allister’s future. Players in Roberto De Zerbi’s squad are said to have discussed the possibility of the Argentine joining Anfield, in a transaction that is not likely to be hampered by Liverpool veteran James Milner’s probable move to the Amex Stadium.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp has remained tight-lipped about Liverpool’s potential bid for Mac Allister, despite Brighton appearing to be receptive to a transfer. The German remained circumspect in his reaction as he stated when asked about the Seagulls’ midfielder: “Nothing to say on it.”

Furthermore, Mac Allister isn’t the only Brighton player linked with a summer move. Moises Caicedo, another midfielder, agreed to a new agreement at the south coast after coming close to joining Arsenal in January, although he could yet find himself at a new club before the start of next season.

Before the World Cup, Mac Allister agreed to a new contract with Brighton that will keep him at the club until 2025. His strong form for club and country explains his persistent interest, but the contract extension should allow the Seagulls to command a sizable fee.
