Arsenal hosted Bournemouth at the Emirates on Monday evening with the hopes of going on top of the Premier League points table, as their league rivals Leicester City played against Manchester City on Tuesday. Things went exactly according to what manager Arsene Wenger would have wanted and expected from his team, as his side took a first-half lead from Gabriel’s header. Further, they doubled it in the second period when Ozil added a second, to secure a 2-0 win over the in-form newcomers in the league. Though the Gunners were not totally solid in their performance in front of the home crowd, they still managed to score twice and also held on to a clean sheet in the match, which would have been quite satisfying after the 4-0 loss to Southampton on Boxing Day.
The French manager’s side went above their league rivals for the time being and could possibly head into the new year at the number one position if Claudio Ranieri’s side lose the game.
It was certainly a really good win for Wenger, who would do not have all his first team players still, as many of his important stars are still missing out with injuries.
Further, fatigue is one more issue and it would have been quite pleasing to see some of his benched stars perform well when it mattered the most.
Here are some of the reactions of the fans of the club on Twitter after this comfortable win for Arsenal in north London, as they expressed their opinions out loud:
Hahaha thanks for the best keeper in the world, you muppets. All the best in your relegation battle. #AFC #COYG https://t.co/2cGHOjp37O
