North London outfit Arsenal travelled to the St. Marys’ to face off against Southampton in the league, as they looked to win the game and go to the top
of the Premier League points table, after Leciester lost to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday afternoon. However, Arsene Wenger’s side once again did what they do best and failed to deliver and take advantage of the situation, as they were unable to produce a desired result in the match. The visitors suffered a huge 4-0 defeat to Ronald Koeman’s side, which came more as a shock as they were expected to not only to take something out of the game, but also win it based on current form. Despite that, things did not go as per plan, as Leicester retained their top spot with a 2 point lead over the Frenchman’s side, who were still at 2nd place.
Wenger knows that his side have to face off against the reigning champions of Europe, Barcelona, in the knockout stages of the Champions League in the new year and this would have surely been a huge set-back for them, in a game that they were expected to win.
The French manager would want his side to recover as soon as possible, as they look to take on Bournemouth on the 28th of December at the Emirates.
Here are how the fans of the club reacted to their side’s loss on Twitter, as some of them were quite angry and upset at the same time due to this result:
