Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side welcomed the current Premier League leaders Leicester City to Anfield on Boxing Day, with the hopes of reducing the
gap between them and their rivals with a win. The Reds had been humiliated in the previous game, as they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Watford and were hoping to recover by not dropping any more easy points. The hosts were desperate to secure all three points with the home fans on their side and get back to winning ways, as soon as possible to challenge for titles.
The game started off quite well for the Merseyside club, though there were chances for both clubs in the first half, yet it ended in a goalless affair, as neither side could finish them off.
Divock Origi could not score from the opportunities that he got in front of goal, before going off with a hamstring injury.
However, after the break Christian Benteke scored at the 63rd minute with a well taken finish in the box, from a Roberto Firmino cross.
No more goals produced in the game and it finished 1-0 for the hosts, who must have really enjoyed that win which they needed for their confidence.
It was not an easy game by any stretch of imagination and the German boss should be credicted to get his side up and going in order to get the all important points from such a crucial game.
Here is the reaction of the fans on Twitter, after this huge win for their team:
Jordan Henderson’s progress has been remarkable. Work-rate, creativity, goals. He’s almost the complete midfielder for us now. Captain.

We’d have lost the game had Leicester been battling relegation. That’s LFC in a nutshell for you.

Claudio Ranieri: “Liverpool deserved to win. We started to play too late, I don’t know why.”

Funny: Internet people who don’t know the offside rule. Less funny: refs who don’t Funniest: all four Liverpool attackers getting it wrong.
