FIFA World Cup 2018: Final – France vs Croatia – Match Preview
The time is almost here for the finale of FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia. Two teams, France and Croatia, are all set to battle for the biggest prize in sports entertainment.
France and Croatia will battle for the biggest prize in football history at the Luzhniki Stadium.
Deschamps’ side overcame Belgium 1-0 in the semi-finals, with Samuel Umtiti securing a 1-0 victory. Croatia, on the other hand, showed great resolve to battle back from a goal down against England to eventually win 2-1 in extra-time courtesy of a Mario Mandzukic volley.
France manager Didier Deschamps could write his name into the history books. If France wins the World Cup, he will become only the third man to win the Cup both as a player and a coach.
France had beaten Argentina, Uruguay and Belgium to reach the final while Croatia had knocked out Denmark, Russia and England. It will be Croatia’s first appearance in a FIFA World Cup final, and they could become the eighth different country to win the competition.
PLAYERS TO LOOK OUT FOR:
FRANCE: KYLIAN MBAPPE
France is full of technically gifted players. But it is their 19-year old wonder kid who has taken this tournament by storm. His galloping runs from the right-flank have been too powerful to obstruct by any opponent.
He has scored three goals in this tournament and is the most dangerous player for his nation. A hat-trick in the final will help him to snatch the Golden Boot from Kane.
CROATIA: LUKA MODRIC
After winning UCL with Real Madrid and carrying his team to the final, many are considering him as a contender for the Ballon d’Or. Winning the World Cup will make him a serious candidate for the trophy.
His performance against England was a treat. But he will be facing an entirely different challenge against France.
N’Golo Kante is no Henderson, and Modric will find it very hard to contain him. A battle between the midfielders to watch out for.
