Kylian Mbappe scored twice as France dumped Lionel Messi and Argentina out of the World Cup with a 4-3 win in Kazan.

Argentina had come from 1-0 down to lead 2-1 in a match illuminated by outstanding goals from Angel Di Maria and Pavard. But a quickfire second-half double from Mbappe put France firmly in the driving seat before Argentina struck again in added time.

Griezmann sent Armani the wrong way to give Didier Dechamps’ side the lead after 13 minutes.
With Lionel Messi spending much of his time wide on the right, Argentina were struggling to create any danger. But out of nothing, Argentina were level thanks to a moment of brilliance from Di Maria. He scored a screamer from 30 yards and levelled the score with 41 minutes gone.
Right after the start of the second half, Messi’s shot deflected off Gabriel Mercado’s foot and bounced beyond Lloris. Argentina shockingly took a 2-1 lead. But Deschamps’ side had to wait only moment longer before the second brilliant goal of the game. Pavard thundered home a wonderful angled half-volley after 57 minutes.
Seven minutes later, France were ahead as a pulsating game took yet another twist. Mbappe scored a brilliant goal to turn the game up again. Pogba’s blocked shot fell to him inside the area and his low shot gone past Armani in the end. Just after couple of minutes later, Mbappe got his second and France doubled the lead.
Aguero nodded home Messi’s pass to give his side a glimmer of hope when only some minutes were left. But in the end it wasn’t enough and Messi and his co had to say goodbye to the World Cup.
