FIFA World Cup 2018, Match 16: Poland vs Senegal – Match Preview
Jun 19, 2018 at 9:55 AM
The second game of Tuesday’s three games will see Poland meeting Senegal as the final two teams to enter the 2018 World Cup clash in Moscow.
Senegal, ranked 27th in the world, will be hoping for Liverpool star Sadio Mane to inspire them out of a group that also includes Colombia and Japan. Senegal are entering the competition in not so impressive form. In their last warm-up game, they beat South Korea 2-0. But prior to that, they were struggling to find form.
Draws against Uzbekistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Luxembourg were followed up by a 2-1 defeat to Croatia ahead of their most recent victory.

On the other hand, eighth-ranked Poland will be banking largely on their talisman Robert Lewandowski. While Poland will start the game as slight favourites, the history is against them. The Europeans have not gone beyond the group stage in the World Cup since 1986, with their best finish being third in the 1974 and 1982 tournaments. Compared to Poland’s record, Senegal, in their solitary World Cup appearance in 2002, surprised many by reaching the quarter-final stage. But with an impressive squad at their disposal, Poland will be eyeing a good show this year.
