FIFA World Cup 2018: Round of 16: Sweden vs Switzerland – Match Preview

Sweden is all set to meet Switzerland in the round of 16 fixture on Tuesday at the FIFA World Cup 2018.

Sweden vs Switzerland encounter is expected to be a hard-fought affair, as both the teams are evenly matched on paper.

Sweden came into the World Cup ranked as outsiders to reach the knockout stages in a group that contained Germany and Mexico.

Yet they finished top. Despite the defeat to reigning champions, they finished at number one slot and gave their best chance of reaching their first quarter-finals this century.

Meanwhile, Switzerland defended valiantly to hold Brazil to a draw in their opening encounter.

In their 2nd match, a late Xherdan Shaqiri goal gave them the win against Serbia. Despite exchanging goals late on, Switzerland did enough to share the spoils with Costa Rica and ensure they reached the last 16.

PLAYERS TO LOOK OUT FOR:

SWEDEN: EMIL FORSBERG

Midfielder Emil Forsberg has been a vital player for Sweden throughout the FIFA World Cup 2018. He had played all three games and played an essential part in the midfield.

Emil had 83.1% pass success rate and played a key role to Sweden’s win over Mexico. The men in yellow will be hoping from Forsberg to give a yet another explosive performance.

SWITZERLAND: XHERDAN SHAQIRI

Xherdan Shaqiri has scored only one goal in the tournament so far, but it came at the most crucial stage.

His late winner sealed all three points against Serbia and it helped to book a place in the last 16.

Shaqiri is quick and vital during counter attacks. Switzerland will be hoping Shaqiri can break through Sweden’s defence and take them to the last eight.

VENUE AND TIME:

Switzerland and Sweden will lock horns at the Krestovsky Stadium. The action will begin at 19:30 PM IST.
