Five Goalkeepers Liverpool Should Have Signed Instead Of Loris Karius 1

Defence and goalkeeping have been the biggest area of concerns for Liverpool in the last few seasons. While the arrival of Joel Matip has provided a much-needed solidarity to the backline, the Reds have not managed to replace Pepe Reina ever since he left Anfield. Simon Mignolet, who arrived at the club in 2013 after some impressive performances with Sunderland, has failed to replicate that form with the Merseyside outfit and some costly mistakes from the Belgium international last season forced Jurgen Klopp to buy Loris Karius from Bundesliga outfit Mainz.

The German goalkeeper grabbed the spotlight after keeping 9 clean sheets last term and replaced Mignolet in the goal. However, he has failed to perform according to his reputation so far and has faced severe criticism after making some huge blunders in last two weeks. He was at fault for at least two of the goals in the 4-3 defeat at Bournemouth and his mistakes against West Ham last week helped the Hammers to walk away with a point and have put the Reds six points adrift of table-toppers Chelsea.

So here are the 5 goalkeepers Jurgen Klopp should have signed instead of the former Germany U-21 international.

5. Jasper Cillissen:

The Netherlands international would have been a brilliant signing for the Reds. He had already proved his worth after performing well in 2014 FIFA World Cup and his impressive form last season helped him to move to Spanish giants Barcelona.

The 27-year old  conceded just 21 goals in 34 games and is known to be good with the ball in his hands and at his feet. His style would have perfectly suited to the Reds’ style of play who like to build attacks from the back.
