Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has backed them to score a hat-trick of Premier League titles. Aguero feels City have beefed up their armoury with new signings this summer and would go unstoppable in the 2022/23 season. Further on, Aguero has also named potential challengers to City on their way to defend the title from last season.
Aguero left City last summer after a goal-laden decade at the club which saw him become the their all-time top scorer after netting a mammoth 259 goals in 388 games. The Argentine also lifted 12 trophies at the Etihad which included five Premier League titles. However, spell at Barcelona last season came to an unfortunate end after he was forced to retire due to cardiac arrhythmia.

Manchester City have brought in four signings so far, which includes one of the hottest prospects around Europe Erling Haaland. Pep Guardiola further welcomed Kalvin Philips, Stefan Ortega and Argentine prodigy Julian Alvarez. The 34-year-old backed City to go all the way for their seventh Premier League title after a stunning summer so far.
Sergio Aguero said, “As always, I believe that the Premier League will show this season that it is beginning to be one of the most competitive leagues in the world. And in this sense, my candidates are Manchester City, which I think can repeat, Liverpool, Chelsea and I add Arsenal, which has strengthened very well and has had great games in the pre-season.
“City’s advantage is that it already has a team that knows what to do on the field and has added variants such as Haaland and Julian Alvarez. It is true that they must adapt but Pep has already said that great players do not need time to adapt.”
Aguero admit he was left scratching his head after City let go Raheem Sterling, who was sold to Chelsea. “I don’t understand the sale of [Raheem] Sterling, there are times they [City] make strange decisions. [Now] City have lost Sterling although Liverpool, who will be in the fight, have lost Mane but have brought in Darwin Nunez.”
The Argentine however surprised with one of his picks for the title challengers. Sergio Aguero believes Arsenal are the ‘dark horses’ in the title race with their stellar summer business which included the signings of two City players in Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko along with three others.
“Everything will be very even, as it has been happening, but we will have to be attentive to Arsenal’s performance, which has put together a great project with the help of Arteta and I think that this year they will give people something to talk about. They are dark horses for the Premier League title after their transfer business, but Man City and Liverpool are clearly favourites.”
The Premier League’s new season kicks-in this weekend, with City facing West Ham away, Liverpool travelling to Fulham and Arsenal to Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace.
