The much-awaited FIFA World Cup 2022 is just a fortnight away. One of the biggest sporting extravaganzas of the planet will kick off this month in Qatar. This will be the first for the FIFA World Cup to be hosted by a middle-east nation and in the middle of a footballing season. Consequently, club football will be paused for six weeks as 32 nations will fight for the world title in Qatar.
France is the reigning FIFA World Cup champions, having won the previous edition by beating Croatia in the final four years ago. As usual, the competition will witness football superstars representing their respective nations. Moreover, the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup could potentially be the last one for some of the sport’s mercurial players in Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Robert Lewandowski, Luis Suarez, Thomas Mueller and many more.
At the same time, several big names like Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah, Marco Verratti, will be missing from the tournament as their respective nations failed to qualify. On the other hand, the likes Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Ben Chilwell and a few others will miss the competition due to injuries.

FIFA World Cup 2022 Schedule – Participating teams:
A total of 32 countries will be participating in FIFA World Cup 2022. Except for hosts Qatar, 31 nations have qualified for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 through a rigorous two-year qualification process from their respective confederations. The 32 teams have been divided into 8 groups of four teams each.
The biggest confederation, UEFA will be represented by 13 nations in defending champions France and Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, England, Germany, Holland, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland and Wales. The Netherlands will make a return to the tournament after missing out on the previous edition, while Wales end their long wait to play in the first World Cup since 1958.
CONMEBOL, the South American confederations has record winners Brazil, two-time champions Argentina spearheaded by Lionel Messi, traditional participants Uruguay and Ecuador who will be gracing Qatar. Their neighbours, North America through their CONCACAF have the United States, Canada, Mexico and Costa Rica representing them. Asian Football Confederation’s Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Iran have made it to the FIFA World Cup 2022.

African nations Senegal, who won the Africa Cup of Nations last year will feature alongside Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco and Tunisia. The smallest confederation, the Oceania Football Confederation will have a sole participant in Australia, as New Zealand were knocked out in the inter-confederation play-off by Costa Rica.
