Is Gerrard coming back to Anfield?? Liverpool legend himself gives update

Steven Gerrard’s time in the MLS is slowly reaching its completion.

After just two seasons with LA Galaxy, the Liverpool legend is set to see his contract expire and his future cast into doubt. On his own admission, the 36-year-old is unsure about his next destination.

Whether it’s coaching, an extended stay in the US or even a Premier League return, though, a plethora of clubs will likely be poised to secure his signature. The Galaxy might not prove his final employer after all.

Gerrard has enjoyed a steady spell with LA Galaxy. The midfielder hasn’t blown the league away like many had expected, but has simply unwinded amid his career honeymoon.

Nevertheless, Gerrard has amassed a satisfying 38 appearances in the MLS and garnered five goals from his deep-lying position. Despite his efforts, though, no silverware has arisen from his excursion.

Therefore, with the Liverpudlian’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, his US spell could be headed for a rather quiet conclusion.

Consequently, once the club’s fate in the MLS playoffs is decided and talks are completed with the Galaxy, Gerrard could become a free agent.

In light of this revelation, the 36-year-old’s future in the game has been cast into doubt. Where his next club will prove or whether he will simply retire has become a hot topic of debate.

The ex-Liverpool captain has offered his own outlook on the situation, though.

Speaking to the Mirror, Gerrard explained: “I’m wondering whether I should play on for a little bit longer or whether I should call it a day. I haven’t 100 per cent decided on that yet.

“I still enjoy playing. I still love coming into training, I still love competing, so if I can carry on and there are opportunities to stay here or go somewhere else for another six months or 12 months then I’ll consider it.

“But if nothing comes up I’ll try and fly through the coaching badges and see what happens down that road.”

It’s apparent that Gerrard will be listening to offers, including those by Galaxy, before making a decision on whether to hang up his boots or not. Given his illustrious career, it’s likely that they’ll be a long queue forming.

While the 36-year-old might not be sure of his own direction quite yet, what is for sure is that Premier League clubs will be hounding him over his availability. After all, who would blame them?

That being said, given Gerrard’s unwavering allegiance to the Kop, a return to English shores appears unlikely in anything other than a Liverpool jersey.
