Gerrard’s return to Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp has sensational update

Liverpool fans thought their dreams were finally about to come true when Steven Gerrard hinted at leaving LA Galaxy on Instagram yesterday.

Attached to a picture of himself wearing the MLS side’s white strip, which you can see below, he wrote: “Living in Los Angeles and playing for the great Galaxy supporters has been a privilege. You have made this place feel like home to me.

“This city and this club will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you.”

Rumours of a potential return to Liverpool soon spread, but it now seems as though it was nothing more than a PR stunt involving a number of LA Galaxy’s players.

Indeed, Robbie Rogers and Gyasi Zardes posted similar pictures of themselves, explaining how they’ve also cherished their time in Los Angeles.

Gerrard’s 18-month contract in the MLS is due to expire which only hypes the speculation surrounding a potential return to Liverpool – and Jurgen Klopp has now responded.

Following his side’s narrow 2-1 victory over West Brom on Saturday night, the German welcomed the idea of bringing Gerrard back to Merseyside but explained how it’s nothing more than a rumour at this moment in time.

“He is always so welcome at Liverpool FC,” Klopp said, per the Independent. “You cannot imagine how welcome, so absolutely no problem.

“But everything we talk about stays in this talk. That is how I know Stevie and that is how I am. People shouldn’t worry that we have no space for Steven Gerrard.”

An equally cryptic response from Klopp, but he’s basically said that while a return isn’t currently on the cards, the same can’t be said for the future.

How Liverpool fans would love nothing more than to see Gerrard back at Anfield, perhaps not as a player, but as part of the club’s coaching staff.

The 36-year-old has a wealth of experience in professional football and could particularly help Jordan Henderson to realise his potential.

In a recently-published book titled ‘Liverpool Captains’, Gerrard explained what the 26-year-old must do to succeed as skipper at Anfield.

“You need to be thick-skinned to be captain,” he said. “Before you accept the responsibility of being captain for Liverpool Football Club you’ve got to tell yourself: ‘There will be good days and bad days’.

“On good days you’ll feel on top of the world. On bad days you’ll feel sad and lonely.

“If you can’t handle the low days when the s*** hits the fan and everyone’s out to get you, if you can’t handle those days mentally, don’t take the job.”
