Manchester United are reportedly ready to offer Phil Jones, Ashley Young and Chris Smalling new contracts to extend their stay at the club after the players have proved their worth to the club this season.
It is widely believed that Ed Woodward has already started negotiating with the three players with an extension of 3-4 years is expected. The trio of Young, Jones and Smalling have their contracts till the summer of 2016 and the club is keen to keep them longer at the club as Van Gaal eyes them as crucial players in United’s future.
Ashley Young has been the real story of the three players. After suffering a torrid season under David Moyes, Young has re-invented himself in the wing-back role and his versatility has been used the most this season.
Young has been used at left-back, left-wing back and on the left wing for Manchester United. Young’s ability to adapt his game at various positions has seen him earn this new contract for Man United.
Phil Jones are Chris Smalling are the best defensive prospect for England and Manchester United thus extending their contract would be ideal on two fronts for united. One being that they are able defenders and they are English, so United will be able to comply with the Premier League guidelines of fielding home-grown players in the squad.
Manchester United have been in the process of wrapping up deals for their valuable players. Recently club agreed a 1-year extension with Michael Carrick and De Gea’s contract extension is expected to be completed in next few weeks.
