Arsenal and Arsene Wenger have been one of the unluckiest in terms of injuries to key players in the Premier League over the years. They have often lost star players to injuries for crunch games which has affected their chances at the top of the table.
So it does not come as a surprise that the Arsenal fans were cringing recently after it was revealed that Chilean international Alexis Sanchez picked up a hamstring injury and that he was doubtful for the game against Manchester United after the international break.
The former Barcelona man has been in sublime form this season, playing in a false-9 position and has scored 8 goals and picked up 5 assists for the club in 15 games in all competitions this season.
He has also helped the players around him thrive in the final third and has helped Arsenal stay unbeaten in the League since the loss to Liverpool on the opening day.
Sanchez has now picked up a hamstring injury that will keep him out of the World Cup qualifier against Colombia but unlike it is usually done, the Chile manager has not allowed the 27-year old to move back to the club for rehabilitation.
Chile manager Juan Antonio Pizzi was criticized by Arsene Wenger for not taking care of the player and is now afraid that he might be risked even with injury for the game against Uruguay on Tuesday next week,
The manager demanded that Chile reveals the scan reports which could help the club assess his injury better.
“I believe that with a hamstring injury. We have to get access for our medical staff to the MRI scan to see what grade it is, how bad it is and make absolutely sure they don’t make any suicidal decision that could harm his future for two or three months,” Wenger said, speaking to the media recently.
“Of course they look at their own results which I can understand but we have to preserve the health of Alexis Sanchez. He always wants to play and that’s where it is a more sensitive case because he’s always ready to play even when injured,” he added.
However, all such injury concerns for Arsene Wenger and the fans would have vanished after the 27-year old spoke openly about his injury situation.
Speaking to a Chilean news outfit, Sanchez revealed that he is currently nursing the injury but claimed the he will be fit enough to start for his side for the game against Uruguay.
Sanchez told El Mercuro: “It is hurting a bit but I’m fine.
“I’ll be back for [the Uruguay game] Tuesday,” he added.
His importance to the squad will see the Chilean manager start him for the game on Tuesday and Wenger will be hoping that he does not pull his hamstring anymore which might result in sidelining Sanchez for more than a month.
Do you think Sanchez should take a risk and play against Uruguay on Thursday, making him a doubt for the fixture against Manchester United?
