Antoine Griezmann is clearly in no mood to discuss the stream of Manchester United based transfer speculations.
The French international is believed to be high up in the list of transfer targets of Man United (as well as Chelsea and Arsenal), but he is determined not to discuss it – especially as he is still only midway through the season with Atlético Madrid.
The topic reared its ugly head in an interview with AS, and Griezmann became notably irritated that the subject of his future beyond this season was becoming an unwelcome issue again, feeling the need once more to reaffirm his commitment to Los Rojiblancos.
The 25-year-old forward said:
“I’m very happy at Atlético, I’m very proud to play for these fans, with these players and with this coach [Diego Simeone].
“I want to try and pay back the confidence and care that the people at Atlético have always shown me.”
Indeed Griezmann went on to ask that he not be quizzed about his future anymore – arguing that other big-name players wouldn’t be asked the same questions:
“I do not like this question, I do not like this kind of questions about my future because players like Cristiano, Messi or Bale are not asked about what is going to happen next year and where they will be or where they will play. That’s why I do not like to be asked either.
I am happy and enjoying at Atlético, do not ask me more about my future.”
Given the very nature of transfer speculation, however, this is unlikely to be the end of it. Man United may test Atlético’s resolve with a huge bid in the summer – or even activate his €100m release clause just to bypass negotiations altogether – at which point Griezmann’s commitment to last season’s Champions League finalists would be tested to the very hilt.
