Habas says the defeat against Pune was one of his worst matches in coaching career
Antonio Lopez Habas, for the first time during his two-year stint with Indian Super League (ISL), looked so discouraged that it has not been seen in the last two years. The reason was not that Athletico De Kolkata lost its crucial away match to FC Pune City on Saturday in Pune. Rather the reason behind Spanish coach’s frustration was his own decision to field three very important footballers in the match who did not look fit at all. They were Arnab Mondol, Rino Anto and Offense Nato. All these three footballers had gone to participate in the international matches with their national teams respectively. And they were fielded by Habas in Saturday’s match immediately after their arrival at Pune.
After the match, the Spanish coach of ATK admitted also, stating, “This was one of the worst five matches in my last 30 years’ coaching career. And I am taking all the responsibility for the disaster in my defense as it was my decision to field those three players who should not have been given rest at least for this match.”
On the contrary, Jackichand Singh, having struck his first goal in the ongoing ISL, seemed ecstatic. Speaking on his team’s win on Saturday, the promising striker from Manipur, said over phone, “I am extremely delighted to have scored the goal intelligently, deceiving Arnab Mondol, although it was true that after returning from Muscat we all the footballers were tired a little bit.”
