It is becoming a tradition for English mid table clubs to sign world class and potentially world class players. A new name is going to be added to the list of Andre Ayew, Dimitri Payet, Wijnaldum, Shaqiri, Afellay as Marseille winger Florian Thauvin is close to join Newcastle United.
Florian Thauvin’s move to Newcastle has moved a step closer after the France Under-21 winger arrived on Tyneside on Tuesday evening. The flamboyant winger is set to follow the footsteps of his former Marseille teammates Ayew and Payet to join Premier League.
The 22-year-old is set for a medical on Wednesday in readiness a £12m move for Marseille, with Rémy Cabella likely to move the other way as part of the deal. Cabella, who only moved to Newcastle last summer on a six-year deal, is already in Marseille and was reported to have passed his medical before a season-long loan with a view to permanent transfer.
Thauvin has been reluctant to leave the Stade Vélodrome but has apparently been unsettled by the coach Marcelo Bielsa’s departure.
The Marseille youngster has 81 appearances for Merseill and scored 15 goals providing 13 more.
He made 38 appearances for the French giants last season and scored 5 goals assisting 7 in all competitions.
He is capped 31 times for French youth set ups and rated highly across Europe and it would be a great statement bt Steve McLaren to secure the 22 year old’s signature.
