Manchester City’s new £27 million wonderkid Gabriel Jesus has revealed the reason behind his telephone celebration after scoring the injury-time winner during his team’s 2-1 win over Swansea City on Sunday and one can say that it is nothing less than hilarious.
The Brazil international has emerged as football’s hottest property after his sensational performances for Manchester City in his first two appearances. The 19-year old has already scored three times and registered two assists. On Sunday, his double against Swansea included a stoppage time winner and helped City to move into the top four of the Premier League standings.
Apart from his impressive performances, one thing that has caught the eyes is his ‘telephone’ celebration after scoring the winner against the Swans. The Brazilian had celebrated in a similar fashion in the past too when he did it out with his Brazil teammates Philippe Coutinho and Neymar during a game against Argentina last year.
A piece on City’s official website says: “His ‘telephone’ celebration after each goal he scores is a reference to the close contact he has with his mother and the tattoo on his right arm depicting a young boy holding a football looking out over a favela with the words ‘Jardim Peri’ sketched large symbolises the bond he has with the place of his birth.”
However, the Brazilian, it seems, had a different intention when he did his iconic celebration on Sunday and the reason behind is absolutely hilarious. According to BigSport, the City striker’s telephone celebration was dedicated to his ex-girlfriend who didn’t answer his calls at Palmeiras, but messaged him when he moved to England.
