Speculations might have been rife on Alexis Sanchez’s future at the Emirates but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that there is still time before the club sorts out their star player’s future.
The Chile international, whose current contract with the Gunners expires at the end of next season, has been in talks with the club over a new deal since August but nothing concrete has been materialised yet. Reports are suggesting that the Chilean, who currently earns£130,000-a-week, is demanding an improved wage from the club but the club bosses are still pondering over it. His situation has put several clubs on high alert. Manchester City and Juventus are heavily linked with the striker and are ready to pounce whenever they sense an opportunity.
The Chilean has been one of the most important players for Arsene Wenger ever since arriving in London from Barcelona in 2014 and has proved his worth with a brilliant start to this season. Arsene Wenger is playing him as a striker ahead of Oliver Giroud and he has repaid the faith with some stunning performances. He took his goal tally to 10 in all competitions after scoring a brace in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday.
And Wenger knows well that the Chilean is very important for his team. Speaking after the win over the Cherries, the French tactician that handing Sanchez a new contract is very important and hinted that the club is ready to splash the cash to keep hold of their star.
“It is important,” Wenger said. after the victory. “How important it is, I don’t know. We will not sort it tonight.
“We have some time in front of us. You (the media) like us to spend money, so you should be happy!”
The Gunners recently handed a lucrative deal to Hector Bellerin and would be desperate to tie down Sanchez by handing him a new contract as soon as possible. Mesut Ozil has also not signed a contract extension yet for wage issues and Gunners will be keen to tie him down too.
