Premier League clubs have been dealt a huge blow in pursuit of former Manchester United star Javier Hernandez as the Mexican striker has said he is happy to remain with Bayern Leverkusen.
Last week, The Sun reported that both Chelsea and Liverpool were interested in the Mexico international as they are desperate to bolster their forward line. Chelsea and Liverpool are currently first and second ranked team in the Premier League respectively but their promising season might get derailed in the coming weeks due to the lack of depth in the attack.
The Blues are currently facing little difficulty in front of the goal as Diego Costa has been in red-hot form but with still a long way to go in the season, Antonio Conte is looking to have enough back-up. He is short of options in case Costa get injured or banned over the second half of the season. The Italian tactician is also linked with Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente.
On the other hand, the Reds are missing some key players at the moment. Sadio Mane has left for Africa Cup of Nations while Danny Ings has already been ruled out of the entire season. Their in-form man Philippe Coutinho is still recovering from the ankle injury. ]
Meanwhile, the speculations around Hernandez only escalated after German news outlet Bild claimed that Leverkusen were looking to off-load the striker as he is not very popular with his teammates due to a lack of contribution to general play and an unfriendliness. The report further stated that the Bundesliga giants are willing to sell the striker, has gone more than three months without scoring and are ready to accept bids of £21.3 million.
However, Hernandez has quashed all the speculation by saying that he is happy to stay with the Bundesliga outfit.
“Why would I like to stay in the Bundesliga? Because I feel good and I’m happy,” Hernandez told bundesliga.com.
“I’ve learned a lot in the Bundesliga, as a player and as a man.
“I like playing in the Champions League, and luckily Bayer have been involved in the last few years. We hope we can achieve that goal again in the second half of the season.”
