After a decent start to the season, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal have slowly lost the plot since the turn of the year as they have failed to consolidate their place in the points table.
Arsenal are currently in the 4th place, more than 10 points off Chelsea at the top of the table. The FA Cup is the only chance any silverware for the club this season as they have little chance of getting back from a 5-1 deficit in the Champions League, Round of 16 tie against Bayern Munich.
They are now in a position where they cannot afford any more slip ups if they are to finish in the top-4 come the end of the season.
However, they face a tricky test this weekend when they travel to Anfield, a place that has not been too kind to them in recent times.
Wenger will hope that he can have a strong squad for this game but he will still be without the likes of Mathieu Debuchy, Santi Cazorla and Mohamed Elneny, who are all out injured.
He will welcome back the likes of Granit Xhaka who serves his suspension and Aaron Ramsey who is just back in training.
The Gunners were inactive at the weekend with their opponents Southampton busy at Wembley.
However, that is not enough rest as it now seems for one Mesut Ozil.
The German playmaker was atrocious in the game against Bayern at the Allianz Arena and coincidentally is yet to play for the club ever since.
He was not a part of the game against Sutton and was later sent home from training on Wednesday due to illness. And he has now emerged as a major doubt for the game at Anfield, giving Wenger yet another headache.
The manager will want all his star players available for this crunch tie but speaking to the media ahead of the game against Liverpool, he failed to clarify whether Ozil will play a role in this game.
‘We’ll see, I don’t know,’ he said when asked about Ozil’s injury.
‘He should be OK,’ he added.
The German has not been in the best of the form in recent times but he is an integral part of the plans at the club and his absence will surely hurt the Gunners.
More so against Liverpool, a club Ozil loves to play against.
Liverpool will be without their skipper Jordan Henderson for this game but are expected to recall Dejan Lovren and Daniel Sturridge who are both back from injury.
