Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were back to winning ways when they welcomed Arsene Wenger’s struggling Arsenal to Anfield in the previous round of the Premier League.
This victory pushed them into the top-4 of the points table and the manager will hope that his side can keep up the good work until the end of the season to qualify for Champions League football next campaign.
Klopp has already been looking to improve the squad in the offseason and has been linked with a number of star players recently.
But there are a few players at the club who could be fighting for their place next season and one such player is young Joe Gomez.
Having broken into the first team at the start of the previous season under Brendan Rodgers, the then Liverpool manager, Gomez made a delightful start to his career at Anfield. But that did not last long as he picked up an ACL injury just before Jurgen Klopp took charge of the club more than a year ago.
That injury ended his season and Gomez was not back in action till the start of this year, where he got a couple of FA Cup games under his belt.
He was solid at the back in each of those games and Klopp has already spoken about his role at the club but at 19, he has a lot of his career ahead of him and Liverpool were even planning to send him out on loan this summer.
Gomez would need some regular game time to realize his potential and Klopp is not sure he can give it to him.
So a move away from the club could be on the cards this summer but maybe not as a big a move as papers today suggest.
According to Spanish outlet Diario Gol, Gomez is now attracting interests from the Bernabeu for a move this summer.
Zinedine Zidane is reportedly ready to make a defensive overhaul in the summer with the likes of Pepe, Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane all linked with an exit.
Though neither of them might end up leaving the Bernabeu, Zidane is determined to add some quality to his defense and has identified Gomez as a possible long-term replacement for Pepe at the Spanish capital.
It is reported that the French manager is a huge fan of the player and has been following his closely and that he is ready to make a bid in the summer.
