Manchester United have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain star Marquinhos as the centre-back has expressed his interest in extending his stay at the French capital.
Jose Mourinho has been desperate to bolster his backline ever since arriving at the Old Trafford and his desperation has only increased after Chris Smalling’s injury. With the January transfer window nearing, the Red Devils are being linked with a host of centre-backs and the PSG ace has emerged as a potential addition to the squad.
However, the Brazil international, whose current contract expires in 2019, is not interested in leaving the French outfit and is now eyeing a contract extension.
Speaking to the Telefoot, the 22-year old said:”This is my fourth year at PSG.”
“I have adapted to life here and speak French. Plus my family is feeling well in Paris.
“Things are going well and I would love to stay here. I hope to sign a renewal.
“It does not only depend on me, but it is looking good.”
Now even if the French champions do not hand the Brazilian a new deal, it would not easy for United to secure his signings as according to reports, Spanish giants Barcelona are also eyeing the defender.
The Old Trafford outfit is also linked with Southampton centre-back Jose Fonte. Jose Mourinho has been targeting the Euro Cup winning defender as he is keen to add more experience to his side. Eric Bailly, who arrived at the club this term, has been performing well but has struggled in big games and a seasoned campaigner like Fonte can help the Portuguese tactician to turn things around. Jose Mourinho’s men are currently fifth in the table with 24 points, 12 points adrift of first-placed Chelsea and Mourinho has been desperate to bring in new players to bolster his squad.
