Huge blow: Manchester United forward sidelined with thigh injury

Manchester United attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is set to be sidelined for ten days after suffering a thigh injury.

The injury meant the Armenian is set to miss the next three Manchester United games which include Europa League opener against Feynoord, Premier League fixture against Watford and League Cup action against Northampton.

The 27-year old has suffered a thigh injury during the international break against Czech Republic as he has worked his way to fitness just to be ready for Manchester Derby.

However, according to The Times, the Armenian has flared up his thigh injury during the derby as he was subbed off at half time making way for Ander Herrera.

The German player’s player of the year has moved to Manchester United in a £27million deal from Borussia Dortmund and so far has not managed to impress manager Jose Mourinho.

The latest injury could prove a major set back as the player is being predominantly used as a substitute so far. He started against Manchester City in the derby last weekend but failed to make any impact in the proceedings and was subbed off by Mourinho at half-time.

Mkhitaryan has reported his frustration with life at Manchester United having been forced to play out wide as his natural position is the role of an attacking midfielder. He prefers to play as No.10, the role which he excelled tremendously last season at Dortmund.

Jose Mourinho would have to adjust his lineup without the Armenian as Mkhitaryan is currently losing the reputation he built at Dortmund over the last three years. He has reportedly fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford behind Juan Mata who has so far impressed in the limited opportunities he got.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are preparing for their Europa League fixture against Feynoord away and Mourinho has already hinted at few changes to the starting line up with Marcus Rashford raring to start.

Chris Smalling has also recovered from injury and will feature in the match squad. However, it remains to be seen he would start after a disappointing performance by Daley Blind against Manchester City.
