Alan Pardew wants to ask John Terry if he is ready to join Crystal Palace after the former England captain announced he will leave Chelsea this summer.
The Crystal Palace boss has expressed his amazing interest in securing the service of Chelsea skipper John Terry.
When speaking after Sunday’s 5-1 FA Cup fourth-round victory at MK Dons, Terry unexpectedly announced he would leave Stamford Bridge at the end of this season when his contract ends.
Chelsea however quickly issued a statement stating that they would “keep the channels of dialogue open” regarding the possibility of Terry remaining at Stamford Bridge, while the 35-year-old has confirmed he wants to continue his career, but would not do that at any another Premier League club.
None of this has discouraged Pardew, as he admitted he would be happy to tempt the former England captain to move across London to Selhurst Park.
“I’ve bumped into John Terry on occasion and asked him many times to join me,” Pardew said. “He always sniggers at the suggestion.
“Of course I will ask one more time. I’m sure I’ll bump into him again and ask the question.”
Pardew thinks the highly appreciated reputation John Terry has crafted being a four-time Premier League winner makes him a leading player any manager would be interested to have in their disposal.
The Crystal Palace boss further said: “He’s got a winning mentality that anyone would want. I’ve seen his comments about leaving Chelsea and he’s probably called it right.
“He’ll have plenty of options – MLS, Gary Neville has gone to Spain, and there’s China. He’s got now until the summer to decide the right move for him and his family.”
John Terry has been with Chelsea for his entire senior career, coming through the youth levels to emerge as the most successful captain in the club’s history.
The shock unexpected decision meant he will leave this summer after 18 long years in the first squad, winning 14 major honours. The Blues captain will put an end to his Stamford Bridge career as the club’s third highest appearance maker.
However, Terry has confirmed he will leave Chelsea in the summer because he thinks the struggling Premier League champions wanted to consult their new manager before even determining whether a further 12-month contract would be forthcoming.
Being a veteran Blues star with 696 Club appearances, has actually signed two one-year contract extensions since 2014 and was in line with the Stamford Bridge’s policy of offering 12-month deals to players over 30.
