Jurgen Klopp, the German maestro, who has taken Liverpool to the top of the table in just an year at the club, is now considered a genuine title contender in the Premier League this season. The likes of Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane have all been superb this season but one player that is easily the man of the season so far for the Reds is Brazil international Philippe Coutinho.
With 4 goals and 4 assists so far in the league this season, Coutinho is one of the best players in the league and has been influential for the Reds in the last two games. He was the man of the match for the games against the Baggies and the Eagles and is now bang in form going into the last game before the international break.
His quality and consistency was sure to attract interest from top clubs in Europe and reports yesterday suggested that Spanish giants Barcelona are pondering over a move for him at the end of the season.
PSG and Real Madrid are also understood to be monitoring his situation and it is understood the Liverpool are wary of losing their star player at the end of the season.
Barcelona re reportedly hopeful of landing the star with three different reasons playing into their hand.
Luis Suarez, who has a good relationship with Coutinho might be able to lure him to Camp Nou while Neymar Jr, who is a childhood friend of the Liverpool star could also play a role in luring him to Spain.
Coutinho’s time in the Catalunya with Espanyol is also said to be a factor in Coutinho wanting to go back to the city, this time with Barcelona.
So it is clear that Barcelona re ready to make a swoop for the player and this has left the English outfit with some thinking to do for the rest of the season.
However, they have not taken long to respond to these rumors and are reportedly ready to ward off interest from those clubs at the end of the season.
According to recent reports, Liverpool are now ready to offer Coutinho a new contract that will keep him at the club for a longer time and scare potential suitors away.
This will be the Brazilian’s second contract in the space of a year at Anfield.
It is not a new problem for Jurgen Klopp who lost a number of star players to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. It will be interesting to see if Coutinho accepts the new deal as a move to Barcelona would be too tempting to turn down this early in his career.
However, at 24, Coutinho will only become a better player in years to come and Klopp will hope to do everything he can to keep him at Anfield.
Do you think Coutinho will leave Liverpool next summer?
