Manchester United are set to face stiff competition from Barcelona as the Catalan club are the latest to send scouts to watch Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, according to reports.
The young Swede was close to signing for Manchester United a couple of months ago as he is all set to sign for the Red Devils in the January transfer window but the Premier League giants have decided to hold off the deal till the summer.
Jose Mourinho was satisfied with his central defenders as both Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have done exceptionally well in the absence of Eric Bailly in November and the Portuguese tactician has decided to delay the deal after spending massive amounts of money in summer.
Despite it remains to be seen whether Manchester United will make a move for the 22-year old Swede this summer, European giants Barcelona are keen to swoop in the central defender as Luis Enrique is desperate to add some quality young players to his central defence next season.
Portuguese media outlet O Jogo claims that the Catalan club has sent a scouting team to watch Lindelof last weekend. Barcelona have looked not at their best this season as they are trailing Real Madrid in the La Liga title race and their defence have been exposed many a time this season in the league.
Javier Mascherano is at the fag end of his career and Lindelof looks like a perfect replacement for the Argentine as the Swede has earned a reputation of becoming one of the finest young centre-backs in entire Europe.
Manchester United might have to regret again if Barcelona makes a move for the Swede as they have failed to land another star youngster after losing to Bayern Munich in the case of Renato Sanches last summer.
