Manchester United target Kostas Manolas will stay with Italian giants AS Roma, according to reports in Italy.
Calciomercato claims the 25-year old Greek international is keen to stay at Italian capital for the reminder of the season. The news will be a huge blow for Manchester United as the Red Devils are looking for a quality central defender in the transfer market.
Jose Mourinho was keen on Manolas and the Premier League giants were heavily linked with the defender over the recent weeks but the Portuguese tactician will need to find a new player who can resolve the defensive woes of the club.
The club are also linked with a move to Benfica central defender Victor Lindelof but the move for the Swedish international have not taken off as United have dropped their interest after seeing the form of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo during December.
But the Red Devils do not have plenty of options in the central defense as Eric Bailly has left to play in the African Cup of Nations and will not be available in the coming weeks as he needs to be brought into the side slowly after the intense competition.
Another major target Jose Fonte has joined West Ham United earlier this week from Southampton as Mourinho is left with little to choose from to solve his defensive problems.
After an impressive comeback into the title race, Manchester United have dropped four points in their last two games as they were held to 1-1 draws yet again which has been the feature of their Premier League campaign so far.
Jose Mourinho would like more solidarity in the back and will have to find a new target in the coming days as Manchester United are keen to make a big money move for a centre back this month.
