Carlo Ancelotti insists that he was not approached by Liverpool to take the managerial post before Jürgen Klopp succeeded Brendan Rodgers at Anfield.
Klopp penned a three-year lucrative deal with Liverpool earlier this month and began his new campaign with a goalless draw against Tottenham on Saturday.
Earlier reports were claiming Liverpool considered a proposal for Ancelotti, who is taking a one-year break as he recovering from back surgery after Real Madrid sacked him in May this year, both before and after the sacking of Rodgers.
Liverpool also didn’t want to get involved in any controversy. They were saying from the very first that Klopp was the first choice to replace Brendan Rodgers, despite former Tottenham and QPR manager Harry Redknapp’s claim that Liverpool would have preferred the Italian and had appointed him but Ancelotti himself turned down the offer.
Ancelotti, however, made it clear that he did not receive any offer, stating: “With Liverpool, there was no contact. When a job becomes available, they always use the names of the coaches currently without a team, so my name was thrown out there.
“But I never had any direct contact with the directors of Liverpool.”
There were also reports in Italy that claimed Carlo Ancelotti is the first choice of Bayern Munich if Pep Guardiola leaves. Guardiola reported having agreed on the terms of a possible contract to take over the managerial post of Manchester City next season. So Bayern didn’t want to wait for any more verbal talks. According to Football Italia, the Bavarians held talks with former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti to replace the veteran Spanish manager at the end of the season.
