Fabio Borini will face former side Liverpool as Sunderland take on the Reds on Wednesday. Borini is an ex-scouser, he moved to Anfield for £10.5m in the summer of 2012 but made just eight appearances during a three-year period – much of it on loan away from Merseyside. Borini has expressed his urge to net goals against Liverpool and he looks forward to having a good game of football against his former side.
Speaking to the Sunderland Echo, Borini said: “Obviously, the goals give you a little bit of confidence but at the end of the day, all that matters is the result.”
“Yes, I’d like to score against Liverpool. More than anyone else. I’ve said everything I want to already about my time there. But these games are huge for us.”
He added: “We’re not starting games well and we need to focus on the first halves and make sure we are still in the game in the second half.”
“When you give the first half away against the big teams, they take their chances.”
“Now we’re playing at home. This period is busy so you have to make sure you recover well.”
“That’s the most important thing. That we forget about Saturday and make sure we’re ready for Wednesday night.”
Fabio Borini has netted twice for Sunderland this season in 8 games. He possesses a pass success rate of nearly 76% in the league. Borini’s Sunderland is in a miserable condition as the club is close to being relegated. Sunderland is currently 19th on the table.
