Chelsea’s star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois admits his rehabilitation from the knee injury he sustained at the start of the season is going well and he expects a possible return in December.
The 23-year-old Belgian shot-stopper was injured on the opening day of the season, after which suffered another major setback back in September tearing the meniscus ligament in his right knee during a training session.
Back then, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho himself revealed that Courtois will be sidelined for “quite a long time” as it was suggested after medical examinations that he would need to undergo surgery. Speaking to the reporters, former Genk and Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Courtois told his recovery session has been going well.
“In terms of my knee, it’s good,” Courtois said in an interview. “I’m doing my rehabilitation and it’s progressing well.
“From tomorrow [Wednesday], I’ll be starting the bulk of the work with my physio to come back as soon as possible. Of course I still have to be careful not to go too quickly. I should be back in December, all being well.”
As Chelsea only managed four points in the three league games Courtois played in this season, the defending Premier League champions struggled even more in the star goalkeeper’s absence.
Mourinho’s reserved one, former Stoke City keeper Asmir Begovic, has taken Courtois’ position since the injury. Stats saying, Chelsea have conceded 11 goals in the five league games Begovic has played this season and they have unfortunately lost three of those matches.
