With more big name signings, Spanish giants Barcelona who are famous for producing world-class talents seem to be failing La Masia.

F.C Barcelona have been always known for producing the biggest talents in the footballing world from their very famous academy ‘La Masia’. Some of the big names include Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol and the list of big names continue.

The World Cup winning team of Spain included 7 F.C Barcelona players, in the playing 11. The scenario is no longer the same. The 2019 U 21 World Cup winning Spanish team saw no La Masia players even called up for the squad. This is a bad image on the name of Barca’s academy and is seen as a big failure.

With less academy graduates getting chance into the first team, most of the talent leaves for other top tier European clubs for a chance to get into their playing 11.

F.C Barcelona have spent a total of € 616 million in their last 3 transfer windows including the 2019 summer window, in which a few big signings are still to be made with Antoine Griezmann and Neymar Jr. linked for a big move to the Camp Nou.

Barcelona have excelled in the league, winning 8 La Liga’s in the last 11 seasons, while they are starving for success in Europe with their last UCL title in 2015.

Joan Laporta, ex Barcelona President feels that the club is losing on its traditions. He says: “Mes que un Club is not a slogan, it’s a declaration of principles. “We have a reference which was the genuine style of football which Johan Cruyff taught us we bet on the academy and now the club’s moved away from that.”

The European dominance Barcelona have shown from 2005 has been fading away now. The style of play they have been famous for, the ‘Tiki Taka’ is no where to be seen in their style of play now.

Barca are reigniting the flow of players from the academy now, with Carles Alena getting in the squad last season and Moussa Wague this season. Barca B player Riqui Puig also looks set to be joining the first team this seasonn or else he’ll be sent on loan, to a team promising him playing time.
