Reports emanating from Italy today suggest that Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is being targeted by AC Milan, with the Rossoneri thought to be weighing up a £26 million bid for the England international, according to Italian media outlet CalcioMercatoWeb.
Rumours regarding the 27-year-old’s future have gathered momentum in recent weeks, with reports suggesting that the striker does not fit into Jürgen Klopp’s ethos of the high-intensity press from the front.
His talent is unquestionable, however, and with a proven track-record at the top level, there will surely be a whole number of potential suitors for his signature, should the Reds actually decide to sell their man.
The report from CalcioMercatoWeb claim that the Italian giants are weighing up an offer for Sturridge, in a bid to find a replacement for Carlos Bacca, who could leave for Paris Saint-Germain in the January transfer window.
The former Chelsea and Manchester City hitman has made eight Premier League appearances for Klopp’s men this term, and is still yet to register a goal.
He has, however, scored five times in as many appearances outside of league competition, with three goals coming for his country and two in Liverpool’s EFL Cup campaign.
With such intense levels of completion ahead for the Reds, it would be a strange decision for them to sell the England forward in January, leaving themselves with only Divock Origi in reserve.
Despite Sturridge obviously wanting to play more regularly, if he bides his time, his chance will surely come to prove himself to Klopp, and if they can still not reach common ground, a move next summer could be best solution for all parties concerned.
