Joel Matip officially becomes a Liverpool player! 1

Liverpool have now officially announced that Joel Matip has completed his free transfer from Bundesliga club FC Schalke. The centre-back has been now officially registered as a Red after the Premier League club confirmed the news on Social Media.

The Cameroon international’s deal with the Bundesliga outfit has now come to end as his contract has expired. Matip is yet to involve in Liverpool’s pre-season training under Jurgen Klopp and will also meet his new team-mates at Melwood on Saturday.

The Kop boss Jurgen Klopp has already started the rebuilding of the Liverpool squad to bring back the glory days at the Anfield and he started this project by strengthening the weakest point of the squad- a goalkeeper. Loris Karius was his first signing at Liverpool and according to many football pundits, it was a steal deal! Surely the German goalkeeper will be a huge competition for Simon Mignolet. On the other hand, Southampton’s Sadio Mane joined the Reds earlier this week for €30million.

The centre-back has spent all his career playing and developing at Schalke and is counted amongst the best centre backs in the whole Bundesliga.

Matip was born in Germany but the 24-year-old plays for Cameroon national team and already has 27 international caps playing for Cameroon.

The defender made 101 interception, 33 blocks and 182 clearances, which is more than any other Liverpool centre-backs last season. He will wear #32 shirt as Brannagan will shift to #25 for Liverpool.
