Steven Gerrard is set to leave Anfield at the end of this season and his deputy and stand-in captain Jordan Henderson had planned the perfect farewell gift for Gerrard.

Henderson is desperate to see Gerrard lift the FA Cup before he jets off the MLS in the summer. Henderson has the date and timing eyed for a perfect birthday gift for Stevie G.

Gerrard will be celebrating his 30th birthday when the FA Cup finals week will come around on 30th May later this year. Henderson wants the Liverpool to be victorious and take a trip to the Wembley’s Royal Box as the FA Cup champions.

Jordan Henderson still remembers the pain he and the entire Liverpool side suffered when the lost the 2012 FA Cup final to Chelsea. Speaking to Mirror, Henderson said:

“I’ve learnt so much from him since I came to the club, not just on the field but off it as well.

“I’ve been captain while he’s been injured and it’s been a huge privilege, but Stevie is still a massive player for us and he’s still our leader.

“Liverpool have had some huge captains throughout their history. And over the last 10 or 15 years, Stevie has been one of the best captains in world football.

“Hopefully we will have him back soon because we need him.”

Henderson himself has been in an inspiring form scoring twice in his last two games and more importantly his goal against Manchester City truly laid the foundation for the emphatic victory Liverpool enjoyed at Anfield.

Henderson is eyed as the long-term captain for Liverpool when Gerrard leaves Anfield and the obvious comparisons will be drawn between Gerrard and Henderson. Former Sunderland man was asked the same question and he replied by saying that he needs to go a long way before he can be compared to Gerrard.

Henderson Said: “I’m not so sure I can compare myself to Steven Gerrard just yet!

“He’s been scoring 10, 15, even 20 goals a season for the last 10 years and I’m nowhere near that. I’m not sure where the goals are coming from.

“Hopefully, if I keep getting in the positions and keep hitting the target, hopefully I’ll score a few more goals.”

Liverpool take on Blackburn later today in the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup. Aston Villa and Bradford have already moved in to the Semi Finals with Liverpool hoping to join them soon.
