Jorge Mendes is in talks with Manchester United over three potential January deals.
Mendes is beginning to grow even more crucial to the Red Devils’ transfer window dealings.
He represents Victor Lindelof and Jose Fonte, both of whom Mourinho is fans of.
The deal for Lindelof, 22, has been discussed and should be completed imminently with the contract having been agreed.
United have agreed to pay £38m to get him from Benfica.
Mourinho was keen on his fellow Portuguese Fonte in the summer after shining at Euro 2016.
But since then his interest has eased a little – although his name is still being mentioned.
There is also the outside chance Fonte could leave Southampton to join Benfica to replace Lindelof after handing in a transfer request.
Portugal international Fonte joined Benfica in 2006 but was shipped out on loan three times.
A switch to go back there would guarantee him Champions League football and the chance to move home to finish his career.
If Benfica do sign Fonte, who has 18 months left on his contract, Lindelof would instantly be free to join United.
Lindelof, 22, has been left out of the Benfica squad for recent games as the Portuguese outfit prepare for life without him.
And last night it emerged Mendes was also in talks with Woodward over Real Madrid superstar James Rodriguez.
Rodriguez, 25, wants to link up with Mourinho at Old Trafford, according to the Mirror.
Chelsea have also been mooted as a destination for Rodriguez, with Antonio Conte keen to sign a versatile player.
There are no suggestions all three deals will be done – although United have made it clear they are desperate to improve their squad and are willing to spend.
But as every day goes by the role of transfer fixer Mendes is only coming more and more important.
