Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that the injury of Henrikh Mkhitaryan is not a major one and hopes the talented winger could be back for the Boxing Day clash against Sunderland.
The 27-year old is in sensational form as he has broken into the first team in the recent weeks and has been impressing both the manager and the fans with his stellar performances.
He has backed his goal against Zorya mid-week with another goal against Tottenham Hotspur which proved to be the winner for the Red Devils as they clinched three important points to stay in contention with the top teams.
‘It doesn’t look serious, no surgery. The next game I don’t think so but we hope he will be back for Boxing Day.
‘He can’t play but he will only be missing for about a week or so. We were worried (when he went down injured) but it doesn’t look like it will be a bad one.’
The Armenian was tackled by Tottenham left-back Rose as the latter went in for a late tackle which saw Mkhitaryan twist his knee and was eventually taken off using a stretcher. Initially, fans were in shock as they expected the winger to be out for a number of weeks as the injury looked serious when he was taken off.
However, the news from Mourinho would bring a sigh of relief to the fans as the Armenian looked like their most important player over the last two weeks.
The boss was also very happy with the win as he has praised his team’s effort to win three much-needed points after their three consecutive 1-1 draws in Premier League.
He said: ‘We were very organised at the back and defended well to take the clean sheet.
‘These three points are magic because it’s against a very good team which means even more for us.’
