Jose Mourinho came out delivered a body blow to all the Chelsea fans when he revealed the news of Diego Costa missing the next 2 weeks of football due to his long troubling hamstring injury.
Costa was brought on as the second half substitute by Jose Mourinho when Chelsea were locked at 1-1 with Stoke but the Spanish striker lasted for only 10 minutes as he had to brought off when his hamstring injury resurfaced.
Jose Mourinho came out and talked to the media about how medical team had done the necessary scans on Costa’s thighs and it appeared to be alright as the striker took lots of shots in training and felt that he was ready to play some part in the game against Stoke.
Mourinho admitted that the player was not ready to play the entire 90 minutes of the game but was indeed ready to help his side. Mourinho’s decision backfired as the striker is now set to miss the next two games crucially against QPR and Manchester United.
Chelsea have looked rather unsure over the last few weeks as their performances have been far from convincing and now with Diego Costa missing the big game against Manchester United, Mourinho will be wary and must be wondering if his team’s title push would come under threat.
Mourinho seemed disappointed while speaking in his post-game interview. Chelsea manager said: ‘Sometimes as a manager I have to risk things. Medical departments have to do the same, if they want to be top medical departments like our department is.
‘The safe medical department cannot work with me. People with fear, afraid to risk, cannot work with me.
‘My medical department is fantastic, they do fantastically well for us.
‘Today between them and the player and myself, things didn’t happen the best way, but I’m happy with that, because it’s football.”
‘If we were 2-0 or 3-0 up we planned not to use him until next week but we had to take that risk. He looks to be out for a couple of weeks minimum but I’m glad we got the points.’
