But just who are Zelijko Buvac and Peter Krawietz?

Zeljko Buvac

The Bosnia coach is set to be Klopp’s No 2 and has been a close friend of Klopp since they played for Mainz together in the early ‘90s.

Buvac was appointed Klopp’s assistant when he took the job back at Mainz in 2001, and then followed Klopp to Borussia Dortmund in 2008, where he was his also his trusted assistant.

Dortmund midfielder Nuri Sahin, who also spent a brief period on loan at Liverpool, says the pair are like “twins”.

“Zeljko Buvac is basically Klopp’s twin,” Sahin told the Bundesliga website. “Both of them see football in exactly the same way.”

The 54-year-old Serbian is currently the manager of the Republika Srpska national team.

Peter Krawietz

Krawietz has also been Klopp’s chief scout during the course of the last 14 years.

And ahead of that press briefing Klopp has given an interview to Liverpool’s in-house television station outlining a philosophy – honed at Dortmund – which he hopes will lead to a “great relationship” with the club’s “extraordinary supporters”.

He said: “Firstly, I would like to offer thanks to the ownership of Liverpool Football Club for showing faith in me and my staff and presenting us with this wonderful opportunity. They have presented to me a very clear vision and I share their ambitions and model of work.

Liverpool’ Chairman Tom Werner said: “In Jurgen Klopp we have appointed a world-class manager with a proven track record of winning and someone who has the personality and charisma to reignite this football club and take the team forward.

“When an opportunity presents itself to acquire one of the most sought-after leaders in the game, it is something you have to pursue decisively and we are delighted he has accepted our invitation.

“He possesses all the qualities we are looking for in a manager – he is a strong, inspirational leader, who has a clear philosophy of high.
