Liverpool set to secure Jurgen Klopp for a long term with a lucrative offer on the table.
With Klopp leading Liverpool to Champions League triumph, the Merseyside club wants the manager to be at charge of the club for a long term. Liverpool are reportedly set to offer him £10million-a-year deal. His current contract still runs for three more seasons which sees him bagging £7million per year.
Klopp secured his first title at Liverpool, winning the prestigious Champions League in his 4th year of term. He also gave tough competition to Manchester City in the premier league, clinching the second spot with 97 points. With his great bonding with the team and management and an utter competitive spirit, he has taken Liverpool to new heights .
Liverpool chairman Tom Werner said:
“When the players threw Jurgen in the air after our victory, they were acknowledging what all Liverpool fans know — he is beloved by all who appreciate football. Jurgen is a brilliant coach. But, just as importantly, he is a humble and caring man who is happy today because he knows what this meant to our supporters.”
Liverpool had lost 3 finals previously under Klopp – 2016 League Cup Final against Manchester City, 2016 Europa League Final against Sevilla and 2018 Champions League Final against Real Madrid. However, with new signings and building a strong squad depth this year they clinched a piece of silverware, with heroics like the 4-0 second-leg comeback against Barcelona in the Champions League Semifinal.
The 51 year old German manager with his current contract is bound to stay at the Merseyside until 2022 with the club and with the new contract set to be offered to him Liverpool want to keep him at the job for a long term period. Klopp, nonetheless, could lead Liverpool to more silverwares this summer with the UEFA Super Cup and Community Shield trophies at stake.
