Jurgen Klopp wants Lyon sensation to challenge Alberto Moreno next sesaon
Liverpool are one of the many clubs that need some strengthening in particular positions in the squad ahead of the next season.
The manager has already improved on his attacking options and will now look to deal with the problems in the midfield and in the left-back positions within the squad.
The likes of Jon Flanagan and Brad Smith, both of whom have taken the responsibilities of a left-back position in the past for the club are now out leaving Alberto Moreno as the only left-back choice at the moment.
So there is no surprise in the papers linking them with a number of left-backs around Europe.
And the latest player who is linked with a move to the Merseyside is Lyon’s teenage sensation Jordy Gaspar.
The 19-year old is a product of the Lyon academy and has slowly established himself as one of the most exciting defenders in the domestic circuit in France.
He is predominantly a right-back but is equally comfortable playing in a left-back position and with French newspaper L’Equipe claiming that the player is yet to sign a contract with the French outfit, Jurgen Klopp the Liverpool manager wants to lure him to Anfield to solve his crisis at the back.
After recent business, Liverpool are left with Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno as the only two senior full-backs while Connor Randall has done a decent job in the pre-season.
However, the manager will have to add a quality back-up for the duo to compete for their places, thus helping improve the overall quality within the squad.
However, the English outfit will not have it easy if Gaspar is made available by Lyon this summer.
The 19-year old is also understood to be a transfer target for German club Bayer Leverkusen and have a big advantage over Liverpool in luring him to the Bundesliga.
The Bay Arena outfit have qualified for the Champions League next season and will be able to provide Gaspar with European football next season while the Reds are not in Europe and will start as outsiders to land their player this summer.
However, it will be interesting to see how the story moves as Liverpool are clearly in a more desperate need for a full-back this summer than the Bundesliga outfit. But whether the 19-year old is the answer is a question that will be answered only after the end of the next season.
Do you think Jordy Gaspar is the right choice for Liverpool this summer?
