Just One 6! Arsenal Player Ratings in 3-1 Loss To Chelsea
Feb 5, 2017 at 10:35 AM
After being humiliated by Watford at home, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal were expected to produce a better performance this weekend but their trip to the Stamford Bridge just did not go as expected. They went 1-0 down in the 11th minute of the game as Marcos Alonso opened the scoring for Chelsea. The Gunners failed to create enough chances against the Blues and their atrocious defending early in the second half saw Eden Hazard score a solo goal that almost put the game beyond them. Though Olivier Giroud came up with a goal in stoppage time, it was not before Cesc Fabregas came off the bench to put Chelsea 3-0 up with 5 minutes to play. Not many Arsenal players can keep their head held high after the defeat and here are the player ratings for the Gunners:
Petr Cech (4):
Though could not have done much for the first couple of goals, was at fault for the third on a forgettable night for the shot-stopper.
Hector Bellerin (5):
Was decent till he was beaten in the air by Alonso for the opened and had to be subbed off after picking up a bang to the head during that goal.
Shkodran Mustafi (4):
Arguably the worst performance of the season for the German who was constantly exploited by a fluid Chelsea side on the night.
Laurent Koscielny (4):
Was off color all night as he failed in the battle against Costa and was bamboozled by Eden Hazard before, after an during his wonder goal.
Nacho Monreal (5):
Picked up the assist for Giroud’s goal but offered little resistance at the other end to give Chelsea an easy route to goal.
Francis Coquelin (3):
Nowhere near good enough to contain an attack like Chelsea and was embarrassed by Hazard in the buildup to his goal.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (5):
Though was no match for Chelsea, did well enough in an unfamiliar position on a disastrous night for the Gunners.
Alex Iwobi (5):
Started in the midfield for some strange reason and did not help his side one bit in their search for a goal on the night.
Mesut Ozil (4):
With no chances created and just one shot on target, Ozil, was as good as absent on a night when Arsenal needed him the most.
Theo Walcott (4):
Was unable to have any kind of an effect in the final third and was no match to Eden Hazard at the other end failing to help his side to even a point from this game.
Alexis Sanchez (4):
Topping Ozil, Sanchez created 0 chances and also had 0 shots n goal in a performance he would like to forget in a hurry.
SUBS:
Gabriel Paulista (4):
Replaced Bellerin early in the game but never was able to contain a Chelsea attack that was determined to score.
Olivier Giroud (6):
Added some much needed attacking impetus in the second half and also got himself a consolation goal late in the game.
Danny Welbeck (5):
Came in too late in the game to have any telling impact.
