Kai Havertz has claimed he was not himself for ‘weeks and months’, after overcoming his two-month goal drought during Chelsea’s win over Leicester City in the Premier League. In his side’s 3-1 victory over the Foxes at the King Power Stadium, the Kai Havertz scored his first Premier League goal since January.

However, since moving to Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in a £72 million transfer in the summer of 2020, it was the 23-year-old’s only 18th Premier League goal, a record that has drawn immense criticism given the money invested in him and the time as well which has been lent to him.

Kai Havertz explains how goal drought made life hell for him and his girlfriend

Under Graham Potter, Chelsea have already suffered a lot recently. They have only won four Premier League games post the World Cup in Qatar, falling to tenth place and 11 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, with a game in hand. However, there was some relief for the underfire Potter and his players with their win on Saturday, meaning Chelsea have now won three straight matches across all competitions for the first time since October, when they were on an impressive run of five wins in a row.

Kai Havertz believes Chelsea have found their mojo again but acknowledged it has been a challenging time for him personally. The German has had success at Stamford Bridge despite having a middling record at Chelsea. He has won the Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and scored the game-winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final against rivals Manchester City. Speaking of his struggles, Havertz said:

“Football is our life. If you lose a game, of course you don’t have an easy life. I think everyone at home, especially my girlfriend, has had some tough weeks as well the last weeks and months. I think she is happy now again and so am I. If you have a bad day at work… you… I won’t say the word now but you don’t feel good. Football is a game where we have a lot of pressure on our shoulders.

“We want to make the fans happy and if you don’t make them happy then you don’t have a good time. Winning is always the best, we won again so we can enjoy some days.”

The Premier League heavyweights have frequently turned to Kai Havertz to lead their line as a makeshift striker this season since they are still without a solid No. 9. Havertz has scored nine goals in all competitions, but between January 15 and March 12 he went goalless, before scoring in back-to-back games against Borussia Dortmund and Leicester. The Chelsea man has now acknowledged it has been a difficult time for him both on and off the field.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s last remaining chance to win a trophy this year is in the Champions League. After knocking out Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16, Potter’s team will get to know their quarterfinals opponents when the draw takes place in Switzerland on Friday. Chelsea also still have 12 games to play in the Premier League to rescue their season. They still have to play league leaders Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Newcastle, which makes it challenging for them to finish into the top four.
